Committees bring together a smaller number of councillors to concentrate on a specific function of the Council and share the workload. Some committees are permanent or standing committees, and others are set up for a short-term project. Some are advisory ie they make recommendations to the Council which then makes the decisions. There are also executive committees where the Council delegates responsibility for certain decisions to the committee, which can then report its decisions to Council.

At present, the Council has one Committee – the Staffing & Remuneration Committee – which has delegated responsibility for particular aspects of staff management. The Terms of Reference for this Committee are available here: Standing Orders & Policies
